How you can Save Money Making Free Calls via Wifi?

My daughter showed me an interesting app that allows you to make phone calls via your home or business' wireless internet connection. It connected to my google voice account and even transcribes my voicemails.

many people uses an app that allows them to make free calls and text message using wi-fi. They use it when they run out of minutes on their cell phone.

Since everybody in my family owns an iPhone, we always Facetime each other. If you're not familiar with Facetime: it's a free videochat sevice for iPhone/iPad that uses wi-fi. With my girlfriend I always use Skype. I guess there are a lot of apps to connect to other phones over a wi-fi connection, but for me the combination of Skype and Facetime works perfectly. The only problem is, that this is not really "calling": the person you want to connect with has to have the same app installed and probably has to have an account as well. But hey, almost everybody owns a smart phone these days.

Yes I've used similar apps to make calls send txt and even send images and sound bits. pretty fun if you have another person with that or a group of friends. Some tend to be a bit unstable and have a glitch pop up every now and then. BBM, VIber, Tango are some that come to mind.

Its called a VOIP, Voice Over IP. Basically the internet allows you talk.
Apps like Skype and Viber are good cross-platform (works on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS etc.) options for calling via Wi-Fi. It's usually called VoIP; voice over internet protocol. However, a caveat of this is that for the call to be free, you must be calling another user's Skype or Viber accounts. But, given the prevalence of smartphones nowadays, this is surprisingly easy to ensure.

Another interesting option which many people may be oblivious to is using your smartphone and a Wi-Fi connection to call via your landline's call package. Suppose you pay your line rental and a particular call package, free evening and weekend calls, for your landline. Many landline providers now offer a smartphone app which allows you to call a number on your smartphone, via the app over Wi-Fi, and you'll be charged for the call as if you'd made the call from your landline. So using the example I gave above, if you have free evening calls to other landlines, calling from your smartphone via this app will be free and won't impact your smartphone balance.

This also has applications for making calls from your smartphone that are free to landlines but not to mobiles, or if you have no credit on your smartphone but do have Wi-Fi access.

I can't speak for all landline providers the world over, but I know BT, the largest provider in the UK, offer this service, they call it BT SmartTalk, as do UPC in the Republic of Ireland. I propose you contact your service provider, and see if they offer a similar arrangement.

Lots of apps that allow to do that, Skype, Google Voice, Burner, and others. I use Vodafone for free calling. I get the unlimited data option at Tmobile @ $30 a month and I use Vodafone for unlimited calling. I also use Google Voice for my home number. I connect it to the Internet, configure it via PC, and it's set up. The calling quality is amazing and best of all, its completely free.

You don't even need to be tech savvy to set these things up. A quick Google search brings up many tutorials.
Yes I use the Internet a lot to make free calls. On my iPhone I use FaceTime, but that only works to other users that have FaceTime as well. On my computer I use Skype, again it works for someone knows who's also using Skype via Wi-Fi. And then from time to time I used Viber, on my wife's tablet I use that app. And it helps a lot whenever you're low on credit or when you're calling a friend you know that lives in a house where there's Wi-Fi. But it's not really a free call it's Internet to Internet call. Because it makes no sense to top up your Skype account and call from home when you can just top up your phone and call wherever you are. Anyways that's just my opinion. But Internet to Internet calls, I use that a lot.

I am always trying to find a new app that allows you free texting or voice calls over wifi. Most of the calls i make are over my laptop actually using my gmail account so im sitting right in front of any data i need while i am on the phone. they have some great app like text free or text now that allow you free texts and free calling and you are able to earn minuets by downloading games or other sponsored apps for free. Using these you really don't even need to pay a carrier to use your cell phone as long as you have wifi.

Hell yes I do! Ive currently got an app on my iphone I use called textme. I only use my app when im at home so I dont use minutes or texts. Ive even considered going prepaid and just paying for a data plan so I could have the free phone with free calling/text for the price of a data plan. These free phone apps might be the future for phones. Maybe someday we can all just have free calling/texting at the cost of data.

Anyone make free calls via wifi?
